While training at the Jadran Split pool Josip Pavić showed up. Josip Pavič was the goalie for the Croatian team that won the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympic games. Josip was also on the team that won silver at the Rio 2016 Olympic games.
Josip hopped into the goal to take some shots. It was a real treat meeting him and then getting to watch him play.
I took a series of photos of Josip blocking a shot from the 4 spot. The photos have Josip displaying perfect water polo goalie blocking technique.
In the following photos pay attention to how Josip Pavić stays focused on the ball and follows the host all the way into his block. Then his eyes continue to follow the ball even after the save.
The photo below is right when Josip makes the save. His eyes are on the ball and he is coming slightly forward to meet the shot. His arm is angled slightly down to try and block the ball down directly in front of him. Josip’s trailing arm (left arm) is at his side still pushing through the water to give his lunge a little extra reach.
The ball gets blocked out to the side but Josip never takes his eyes off the ball.
I got to watch about 15 minutes of Josip taking shots. This was one of the top highlights of this trip.
